Avoiding Discouragement in Your Business

Many of us can get discouraged when we don't see results from our marketing efforts right away. We create campaigns, we put tons of effort into all we do to promote our business, and sometimes, we just get crickets. It can be so frustrating.

I know it's difficult, but we need to remember, becoming a paying customer is a journey.  A person must go from knowing nothing about you, to becoming aware of your existence, to thinking about whether or not they want to do business with you, to finally making a move to purchase.  All of that takes time.

Consider your own buying habits

Think of all the products you want to buy “one day.”  You likely have a little or a long list of all the things you want to have or use, but perhaps the timing just isn’t right.

Maybe you added something to your cart, but you didn’t have the 3 digit code for your credit card, so you abandoned your purchase.  Maybe you were in the middle of shopping online, and some crazy crisis happened involving a two year old and a bag of flour in the kitchen.  Perhaps you added something to your cart, but then remembered it wasn’t the best time to buy, because your car insurance was going through that week.  You meant to visit that new store in town, but you kept forgetting to.  There are so many reasons people get distracted from their purchases.  Try to remember this when discouragement starts to set in.

Silence from others does not necessarily mean your product or service isn’t any good.  I know this first-hand, because I am personally a mega-fan of many people online, whom I have never personally contacted and sometimes have never purchased from.  We can make the assumption that there are people out there in the world who know about us, and like what we have to offer.  They haven’t yet been compelled to make the move to either buy from us, or contact us to let us know they like what we do!

We need to focus our efforts on finding out what will compel our audience to move and perform the call to action we want.  Whether that is fixing our methods of reaching our potential customers, or setting up systems to capture the attention of those who abandoned their shopping carts. We need to try, and sometimes try again, and maybe even again!

Let’s be encouraged that there is usually ALWAYS someone out there in the world that wants what we have to offer.  We just need to become students of how to connect with those select people.  Stay focused, stay tenacious, keep on learning your target market and what they want.

I know it's hard to stay positive.

And I know sometimes you want to throw in the towel.

I want to encourage you today, PLEASE don't give up.

In every business success story you've ever heard, I can guarantee you, there were moments in that business owner's life when they thought they would never make it. When no one was encouraging them, or buying their product, or joining their email list.

But, they didn't give up. They stuck it out. They changed their strategy. They kept moving forward.

When you feel discouraged, encourage others

I have found over the years, that when I am hosting an itty-bitty-pity-committee party for myself, the only thing that can shake my discouragement is by getting my eyes off myself, and instead focusing on being a blessing to someone else.

Think about it.

If you're feeling discouraged in your business, because you aren't hearing much from anyone...isn't it likely that there are other business owners out there feeling the same way?

Why don’t we take a moment today to reach out to a brand or company that really makes a difference in our lives?  Perhaps a small business owner you know, admire, or a brand you love. Send a note, or an email or leave a voicemail, and let a business owner or influencer know how much you love what they do.  It will encourage them, and I can assure you, it will also encourage your spirit.

So, who will you bless today, friend?
